CHERRY HILL, N.J. – All four Bucknell boats qualified for Grand Finals, and the Bison finished in fifth place at the 2025 Patriot League Rowing Championships on Friday on the Cooper River. The Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Four led the way with fourth-place finishes. The Second Varsity Eight finished fifth, and the Varsity Four placed sixth.
A win in the day's final race – the Varsity Eight Grand Final – propelled Boston University to the team championship with 289.5 points. Associate members Georgetown (267) and MIT (263.5) took the next two spots, with Navy (204) fourth and Bucknell (193) fifth. Colgate (131), Holy Cross (127.5), Lehigh (66.5), and Loyola (55.5) rounded out the nine-team field.
After a brief weather delay pushed back the start of the afternoon finals, Bucknell's Varsity Eight finished less than three seconds off the medal stand. The Bison's top crew, coxed by Hattie Hopper and stroked by Sadye Levensten, finished in 6:55.616, just behind third-place Georgetown (6:52.805) and ahead of Colgate and Navy. After finishing fourth in the Second Varsity Eight, Boston University's 1V8+ won by seven seconds over runner-up MIT, giving the Terriers the come-from-behind team crown.
The Bison 2V8+ took fifth place in a time of 7:16.250. Bucknell finished ahead of Holy Cross in the Grand Final and behind Georgetown, Navy, MIT, and Boston University. The Hoyas won the event for the first time.
This was the first year the Patriot League Championships included a Second Varsity Four competition. Rowing in a dense fog in the very first preliminary heat of the morning, Bucknell posted the sixth-fastest time to sneak into the Grand Final. The Bison moved up to fourth in the afternoon. Boston University, Navy, and MIT took the medals, and Bucknell finished in front of Holy Cross and Georgetown.
Boston University also won the 1V4+ by four seconds over Navy. Georgetown cruised to the bronze medals, followed by MIT, Holy Cross, and Bucknell.
