Four Bison Rowers Earn All-Patriot League Honors

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Four members of Bucknell's silver-medal-winning Varsity Eight were named to the All-Patriot League Rowing Team on Tuesday, as senior Logan Moore and junior Kalena Gatesman earned First Team honors, while senior Hattie Hopper and sophomore Callie VonderHaar garnered Second Team citations.
Bucknell's Varsity Eight capped off a sensational spring season with a second-place finish at last Friday's Patriot League Championships on the Cooper River in New Jersey. The top Bison boat finished less than a boat length behind first-place Boston University and ahead of MIT, Navy, Colgate, and Georgetown in the Grand Final. On the heels of a third-place effort from the Second Varsity Eight, the 1V8+ piled up another 160 points to help the Bison place second in the overall team standings, their best finish since 2022.
Hopper served as the coxswain in the 1V8+ all season, and the native of nearby Catawissa, Pa. (Southern Columbia H.S.) came through the novice program as a freshman and graduated as an all-league coxswain. Likewise, Gatesman was a novice graduate after captaining the tennis and swimming teams at Shawnee High School in New Jersey. She earned a seat in the 1V8+ by the spring of her freshman year, and she rowed in the 4 seat in the top boat again this spring.
Moore was a regular in the 1V8+ for the last three seasons after bouncing between the two eights and the Varsity Four as a freshman. The Naples, Fla., native rowed in the 7 seat this spring, helping the Bison earn two Patriot League Boat of the Week honors. VonderHaar, a sophomore from New Richmond, Ohio, moved up from the 2V8+ to the 1V8+ this season and held down the 6 seat right behind Moore.
