Hamilton, N.Y. - Megan Krestinski recorded five goals in Bucknell's cold and rainy 10-9 loss to Colgate on Saturday afternoon. Bucknell now sits at 5-7 overall and 1-4 in the Patriot League this season.
The Bison found themselves in a three goal deficit in the first quarter and were tasked with mounting a comeback throughout the game. Bucknell would start to close the gap and the Raiders would find a way to maintain their lead until the fourth quarter. The Bison came into the final 15 minutes down by four goals, their greatest deficit of the game. Juliana Pagano, Carly Cenci and Krestinski scored back-to-back-to-back goals to open the fourth quarter and make it a one-goal game. Colgate answered with under four minutes to play to extend the lead to two, but Regan Sansiviero then scored with under two and a half minutes left to give Bucknell a chance at a comeback. Despite the Bison forcing a turnover with under a minute to play, they wouldn't get an offensive opportunity before the clock expired.
The first quarter saw three Colgate goals to open the game before Bucknell's Krestinski found the back of the net. Katie Browne opened the second quarter with a Bison goal and with under ten minutes in the half, Bucknell had a chance to tie the game at three, but suffered a shot-clock violation due to the strong defensive front from Colgate. In the remainder of the second quarter the Raiders extended their lead scoring three more goals to the Bison's one. The first half ended with Colgate in the lead 6-3. The third quarter saw a pretty level playing field with both team's finding opportunities offensively, but the Raiders out-scored the Bison 3-2 making it a 9-5 game heading into the fourth.
Five Bison found the back of the net against the Raiders. Krestinski had five goals and Browne, Pagano, Cenci and Sansiviero each notched one apiece. Taylor McClain recorded one assist in the game which earned her a share of second place in the Bucknell record books for career assists with 78. She shares second with Carol Donohue '10.
Draw controls plagued Bucknell once again as they went 5-for-22 on the circle. Despite that, the Bison were able to pretty closely level possessions through other avenues of the game. Bucknell recorded 21 ground balls to Colgate's 13. The Bison also caused 15 turnovers while the Raiders only caused seven. With the frigid and rainy conditions, turnovers were bound to happen throughout the game. Bucknell saw 13 while Colgate doubled that with 26 turnovers on the afternoon.
Bucknell's goalie Colleen Kazanjian recorded four saves and the Bison went 19-for-22 on clears.
Bucknell will head home for its next game against American on Friday, April 11 at 4 p.m. at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
