Lewisburg, Pa. - Bucknell women's lacrosse held on to their first half lead to defeat American 11-9 on Friday afternoon at Christy. The Bison are now 6-7 overall and 2-4 in the Patriot League.Â
Taylor McClain notched two assists in the game which earned her sole possession of second place in Bucknell history in career assists. She also had one goal in the game. Megan Krestinski led the bunch in scoring with four goals. Allie Boyce notched two which brings her just four goals away from the school record for career goals, Caroline Sheridan, Kat Reynolds and Alex Nesbitt each had one.
Despite American scoring the first goal of the game, Bucknell showed their offensive prowess in the first quarter notching four straight goals before the Eagles found the net again. American then scored two goals back-to-back. Bucknell answered with a Krestinski goal, but it was called back for a dangerous shot as the Eagles defender ducked under the ball. Head Coach Jackie Dando called for a video review and after looking at the play, the call was overturned earning Bucknell a goal and making it a 5-3 game heading into the second.Â
The second quarter opened with Nesbitt and Sheridan recording goals. The Eagles then responded with two of their own. With 26.6 seconds remaining in the quarter, Reynolds ripped a shot and found the back of the net to end the half with the Bison up 9-5.Â
Bucknell started the third quarter off strong with Krestinski scoring two goals in a row, but American responded with two of their own to end the quarter down four. The fourth quarter was a struggle for the Bison offensively as they did not see the back of the net once. American was able to score twice to bring it to a two-goal game, but Bucknell's first half scoring would prove to be enough to secure a win for the Bison 11-9.Â
Bucknell out-shot the Eagles in shots 25 to 15 and shots on goal 20-13. Both teams were close in ground balls with Bucknell having 16 and American having 15. Bucknell also outperformed American in draw controls earning 13-of-24.Â
The Bison caused seven turnovers and committed 16, while the Eagles caused 11 and committed 20.
Bucknell's starting goalie Colleen Kazanjian recorded four saves on the afternoon and Bucknell went 17-for-19 on the clear.Â
