Seniors Shine in 8-3 Win Over Army on Senior Day

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Four seniors combined for five hits and three RBIs behind senior Ben Magovern's quality start on the mound as the Bucknell baseball team took down Army 8-3 on Senior Day on Sunday afternoon at Depew Field. Bucknell exploded for four runs in the third inning, proving to be all that was needed as the Bison pitching staff was excellent on the mound.
Magovern had his best outing of the season, allowing two earned runs on six hits in 6.2 innings. Magovern struck out just three batters, but forced 10 ground outs.
Senior Brady Karp paced the Bison bats with two hits and two RBIs out of the lead off spot. Junior Ryan Facinelli, sophomore Billy Fluharty and freshman John Calabrese all had two hits in the ballgame as the Bison offense went for 13 hits with every batter in the lineup grabbing a hit.
Karp opened the scoring in the fourth inning with a two-run single on a line drive to left field. Senior Tyler Dunn followed suit with a double down the left field line to score a run, and Facinelli brought Dunn home with a single to right field.

Fluharty extended the lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning, tagging two bases to score from second on a deep fly ball to right field hit by sophomore Luke Nascimento.

Army (20-21, 14-10 PL) got its first two hits of the game off of Magovern in the fifth inning, bringing the run home on a sacrifice fly. Bucknell (15-26, 7-14 PL) quickly answered with two runs in the bottom half of the frame to make it 7-1, scoring runs on an RBI triple by sophomore Chris Morabito and an RBI single by Fluharty.

The Black Knights scored a run in the sixth and seventh innings to cut the Bison lead to 7-3. Junior Hadley Maxwell relieved Magovern in the sixth inning with first and third occupied. Maxwell surrendered a walk to bring the tying run to the plate, but fought back to induce a ground ball to get out of the inning.
The Bison tacked on another run in eighth as Maxwell shut the door over the final two innings, retiring the final six batters of the game. Maxwell only surrendered a walk in 2.1 no-hit innings on the mound.
Seniors Billy Kender and Matt Alexander each had a hit and a run scored in the game. Despite an error, Alexander was a highlight reel in his first game of the season at the hot corner with six assists. Alexander made a diving play in the eighth inning, then ended the game on a tough running throw in the ninth.
Bucknell recognized seniors Matt Alexander, Tyler Dunn, Brady Karp, Billy Kender, Ben Magovern, Nick Mulvey, Tyler O'Neill, and Brady Swenson.
Bucknell and Army will finish the series on Sunday with a rubber match at 12 p.m. Prior to the ballgame, Bucknell will rededicate the field to Depew Field at Marren Park.
