West Point, N.Y. - Olivia Selleck scored her first collegiate goal in the final seconds of Bucknell's 16-6 loss to Army West Point on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Bison fall to 6-9 overall and 2-6 in Patriot League play.Â
Alongside Selleck's goal, Bucknell had four other goal scorers. Caroline Sheridan led the pack with two goals and Alex Nesbitt, Kat Reynolds and Katie Browne each had one.
The first quarter of the game was a very close battle with the Bison striking first as Sheridan wrapped around the net to cut and Nesbitt fed her the ball for Sheridan to score. Army answered with a goal of its own to tie the game at one. Nesbitt then took the ball on her own, dodging and running through three defenders to shoot a top corner floater which gave the Bison a 2-1 lead with four minutes left in the first. Army would then score twice to end the quarter with a one goal lead.Â
The second quarter proved to be a show of offense from the Mules as they scored four goals in a row before the Bison's offense was able to respond. Kat Reynolds ripped a shot to put the Bison on the board in the quarter, but Army would score once more to make it an 8-3 lead. Catherine Dineen was also given a red card with two minutes remaining in the quarter to add to the Bison's struggle before halftime.Â
Coming out of the break, Army fired off two more goals early in the third quarter. Bucknell was able to answer and close the gap to five with a free position goal from Sheridan and a goal by Browne. Taylor McClain had the assist to Browne which brings her just seven assists away from the program record. Bucknell's Megan Krestinski found the back of the net to continue fueling the Bucknell offense's fire, but due to a dangerous shot, the goal would be taken away. Army would then score once more before the final five minutes of the third quarter went scoreless resulting in a six goal deficit for the Bison.Â
Army came out swinging in the fourth quarter to punch home their victory as the Mules scored five straight goals before the clock wound down. Selleck's goal was the final one of the afternoon as she scored with 12-seconds left on the game clock to cut Bucknell's loss to a ten goal separation.Â
The Bison once again saw a lot of struggle stemming from the draw circle. Bucknell won 7-of-25 draws. In almost every other category both teams saw similar results. Bucknell recorded 15 turnovers and caused nine turnovers while Army recorded 18 and caused 5 and both teams recorded 19 ground balls apiece.
While the shot count was similar with Bucknell having 27 shots and Army having 32, the shots on goal was where the Bison struggled in comparison to the Mules recording 16 to their 23.Â
Army's goalie, Lindsey Serafine, was a major factor in Army's win as she recorded 10 saves and each big save came in pivotal moments of the game when the Bison began to re-light their spark. Bucknell's goalie, Colleen Kazanjian also had a solid game for the Bison with seven saves on the afternoon to keep her team in the game early on.Â
Bucknell will return home for one final regular season game as they attempt to find a spot in the conference tournament. The Bison will host Loyola at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium on Thursday, April 24 at 7 p.m.
