Lewisburg, Pa. - Allie Boyce broke the Bucknell career goals record on Thursday night in the Bison's 19-6 loss to #15 Loyola. Bucknell ended its season with an overall record of 6-10 and a Patriot League record of 2-7.
Despite both of the other Patriot League outcomes going Bucknell's way, the loss to Loyola means that the Bison will miss out on the 2025 Patriot League playoffs, with the last playoff berth coming in 2017.
Boyce scored her record tying goal on a free-position shot to start the second quarter, which tied Suzanne Raffaele '03 with 144 goals. The senior then found her record-breaking 145th goal in the fourth quarter off of a pick-and-roll to take sole possession of Bucknell's career goals record.
Alongside Boyce, four other Bison scored throughout the game. Alex Nesbitt, Alex Macutek, Carly Cenci and Caroline Sheridan had one goal each.
The Bison came out swinging with Nesbitt scoring to start the game and give Bucknell a 1-0 lead. Loyola answered two minutes later and scored four in a row to take a 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. After Boyce scored to open the second, Macutek scored three minutes later to make it a one-goal game. Loyola then found its comfort on the offensive end as each of the passes came hard and fast into the middle where the cutters were finding openings. The Greyhounds scored eight goals in a row to take a 12-3 lead heading into halftime.
Loyola continued its scoring streak, notching six goals in the third quarter and shutting out the Bison. Loyola opened the fourth quarter with a goal to extend its lead and then Cenci converted a free-position shot for the Bison in her final game at Bucknell to end the Greyhound's 15-goal streak. Boyce then found the back of the net to secure sole possession of the record and Sheridan finished off the game with a goal for the Bison as they would get three in a row to cut their deficit to 13.
When the Bison had possession of the ball they took care of it only recording 10 turnovers to the Greyhounds 18. The Bison also caused more turnovers in the game forcing 13 to Loyola's seven caused turnovers and had more ground balls as they recorded 16 to the Greyhounds' 13.
Bucknell struggled at the draw circle once again going 3-for-27, which caused the Bison to lack when it came to time of possession in the game. Loyola saw 25 shots on goal to Bucknell's 16. Loyola's three goalies combined for 10 saves on the night with starter Lauren Spence having nine.
