Baseball Ends Long Road Stretch with Loss at Penn State

Michael Trommer went 2-for-3 and drove in a run for the Bison, who had plenty of traffic on the basepaths. Bucknell collected seven hits and drew seven walks but left 10 men on base.
The Bison took a 1-0 lead with a two-out rally in the first inning. After Penn State starter Skip Shenosky retired the first two batters of the night, Billy Kender worked a walk after falling behind 1-2 in the count. Trommer and Ryan Facinelli followed with base hits to put Bucknell in front.
After Shenosky stranded the bases loaded, the Bucknell lead lasted only two batters. State College native Samuel Janik walked leadoff hitter Ryan Weingartner and then surrendered Paxton Kling's 11th home run of the season. Penn State added four more runs in the inning, with the only other hit a two-run double from Jesse Jaconski.
The red-hot John Calabrese led off the second inning with a single to extend his hitting streak to seven games, and he later scored on a Billy Fluharty single. Bucknell plated one more run in the fourth on Trommer's two-out RBI single, but Penn State was able to add on runs against a young Bison pitching staff.
The Nittany Lions (18-10) hit double digits for the 16th time this season, despite only managing seven hits. Those hits did damage, however, as three were home runs and three were doubles. Bryce Molinaro went deep twice in addition to Kling's first-inning blast, and Penn State now has 47 homers and 58 doubles in 28 games this season. They also drew 11 walks, were hit by five pitches, and stole six bases to give them 72 thefts on the season.
Bucknell used seven pitchers in the mid-week contest, the first four of whom were freshmen. Sophomore Dylan Radtke was a bright spot in the bottom of the sixth. He inherited a bases-loaded, no-out mess but induced a 5-4-3 double play and got a strikeout to escape with only one run allowed.
Tyler Dunn went 0-for-2 but drew two walks in the game. His hitting streak ended at 10 games but his on-base streak reached 20. Fluharty extended his hitting streak to 12 games.
Bucknell hosts Lehigh in a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday at Depew Field.
