Lewisburg, Pa. - After getting down to a 7-2 deficit, the Bison fought back on senior day to close the gap to just one goal in the third, but it wouldn't be enough as Holy Cross would dominate the fourth quarter and take a 16-10 win at Christy on Saturday afternoon.Â
The Bison move to 5-6 overall and 1-3 in Patriot League play with the loss.Â
Allie Boyce notched a hat-trick for the Bison to bring her just six goals away from tying the program record for career goals. Kiera McClanahan celebrated her birthday on Saturday with her first collegiate goal bringing the ball the whole length of the field before burying her shot. Megan Krestinski, Kat Reynolds, Taylor McClain, Alex Nesbitt and Alex Macutek also found the back of the net for the Bison in the loss.
After finding themselves down four coming out of halftime, the Bison found their offensive lanes and forced Holy Cross to play more frantically in the third quarter, coming out hot with three back-to-back goals to close their deficit to just one with eight minutes left in the quarter. After Bucknell made it a one score game, there was five minutes of scoreless action before Holy Cross was able to settle into its offense and grab two goals before the end of the quarter to extend its lead to three. The Crusaders would then outscore the Bison 5-2 in the second half to extend its lead before the final horn would sound.
Bucknell came out of the gate with a quick goal from Krestinski to take an early 1-0 lead, but would then give up five unanswered goals to the Crusaders to put them in a four goal deficit. The Holy Cross offense found a lot of success with their designed cutters plays against Bucknell's zone defense. Before the first quarter came to an end, Reynolds would score to cut the deficit to three. In the second quarter, Bucknell's offense was able to settle into the game and find more opportunities at the net notching three goals, but Holy Cross continued its offensive prowess with designed cutters and notched four goals to maintain a four-goal lead heading into halftime.Â
The Bison struggled to gain possession throughout the game going just 7-for- 30 on the draw and having 21 turnovers on the game from a culmination of bad passes and lost balls. Because of the struggle with possession, the Bison notched 25 shots with 16 being on goal to the Crusaders 35 shots with 26 being on goal. Bucknell did cause 17 turnovers while Holy Cross only caused 12.Â
Colleen Kazanjian made ten saves on the afternoon as she was heavily tested in the back of the net by a solid offensive front from Holy Cross.Â
