WEST POINT, N.Y.- Bucknell (9-19, 0-6 Patriot League) dropped its sixth straight game in an 8-1 defeat to the red-hot Army Black Knights (21-12, 6-0 Patriot League) on Sunday afternoon. The Bison offense remained stagnant and its pitching staff started well before yielding eight runs to the hard-charging Cadets.
Savannah Jones started in the circle and tossed two scoreless innings before Army gained two runs in its third frame.
A Black Knight single kickstarted the rally. A sacrifice bunt and a grounder advanced the Cadet to third base. Another single scored the runner. A walk, a stolen base, and a third single generated the second run. Sarah Zimmerman entered the circle and put out the fire.
Bucknell scored its first run of the weekend in the following inning. Brooke Popella doubled to center field and advanced to third on MaKenzie Hilling grounder. Shea Malone plated Popella with an RBI single.
Army's fourth inning did not start promising as Zimmerman obtained a strikeout. The situation shifted with a single. The next batter attempted a sacrifice bunt which Reagan Powell booted. A wild pitch advanced both runners. A second strikeout followed but Hurst's two-run double changed the whole game.
The Black Knights added more runs in the fifth inning. A solo home run and a double chased away Zimmerman and Madison Roukey entered the fray. Army, living up to its fight song, proved a terror in the fray with the next five batters hitting a combination of singles and sacrifice flies to score three more runs.
Army had the chance to end the game early in the sixth inning but Roukey escaped the predicament by obtaining a grounder.
Bucknell loaded the bases in its final at-bat on two Army errors and an Angelina Seropian single. No runs came across due to Haley Speicher striking out and Ava Aguilar's grounder.
