SALEM, Va. -- Bucknell (5-8) completed the Hokie Invite with a 14-1 loss in five innings to Robert Morris on Sunday. Bucknell never led and RMU's ten-run third inning decided the contest.
MaKenzie Hilling collected her 100th career hit with a single up the middle in the fifth inning. She became the first Bison since Zoie Smith on Feb. 10, 2024 to reach the milestone.
"I'm really excited for Kenzie to get her 100th hit," said head coach Sarah Caffrey. "She's the epitome of a team player and an example of what hard work looks like. She's been disciplined and mature when it comes to at-bats so for her to reach this milestone it is just awesome to see."
Madison Roukey started in the circle and ran into immediate trouble. A solo home run started the scoring. A walk and a two-run homer completed the three-run opening frame.
RMU added a run in the second inning. A leadoff single, sacrifice bunt, and a wild pitch placed a runner on third and a throwing error by catcher Reagan Powell scored the Colonial.
Robert Morris chased Roukey from the game in the third inning. A single, stolen base, wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly tallied the opening run. Two straight doubles scored the next run and Sarah Zimmerman arrived in the circle. A double, single, sacrifice fly, and another double scored three more runs. Two more singles and a walk brought home another run. That finished Zimmerman and Payton Hale entered the fray. The situation did not improve. Robert Morris's Poulich capped the bonanza with a three-run homer. Poulich had four home runs this weekend against Bison pitching.
Bucknell prevented the shutout but not the mercy rule by scoring a run in the fifth inning. Hailey McCutchan led off with a walk and Ava Aguilar singled. Hilling gathered her 100th career hit with an RBI single up the middle.
The Bison head to Tennessee next weekend for the annual Spring Break trip.
