Softball Falls 10-2 to Tennessee State

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Bucknell softball (7-13) concluded its spring break trip losing 10-2 in six innings to Tennessee State. The Bison offense failed to gain a hit until the sixth inning and the pitching staff yielded nine runs in the final two frames.
Madison Roukey started in the circle and pitched a fine effort until the fifth inning.
TSU scored a run in the opening inning. A two-out triple set the table and a Juliette Basso throwing error provided safe passage for the runner to score.
The roof collapsed in the fifth inning. A leadoff walk and two straight doubles yielded two RBI and chased Roukey from the circle. Savannah Jones entered the fray but the Tigers continued to hunt. A wild pitch and a single scored the third run. A walk and a single loaded the bases. A third single scored another Tiger. An infield single scored another run and a Brooke Popella error tallied the final score. A fly out ended the inning but TSU led 7-0.
Haley Speicher walked with two outs in the sixth inning and Shea Malone broke up the no hitter with a single. MaKenzie Hilling and Popella hit back-to-back RBI singles. A Jones lineout ended the inning.
Tennessee State ended the game in their sixth frame. Sarah Zimmerman entered the circle. A single was sandwiched between two outs and then consecutive triples fell down the right field line for the 9-2 lead. Zimmerman uncorked a wild pitch and the tenth run scored invoking the mercy rule and giving TSU the win.
Bucknell travels to Wagner on March 18 for a doubleheader.
