Senior Billy Kender and sophomore Billy Fluharty each had two hits and an RBI at the plate. Fluharty has stayed hot in Florida after three hits in the series opener with FAU. His third-inning double was his third-extra base hit of the series. Kender and sophomore Chris Morabito are rocking three-game hitting streaks and Kender has at least an RBI in each of the last three games.
Senior Tyler Dunn drove in two runs with a single in the sixth inning. Dunn has at least one hit in five of the six games he has played in and has reached base safely in all six.
Senior Matt Alexander has continued to be a bright spot in the Bison lineup. The middle infielder drew four walks and earned an RBI in the contest after a two-hit game on Tuesday. Alexander has a .667 on-base percentage with six hits, eight walks and five RBIs in 12 games.
Dylan LaPointe's first-inning grand slam gave the Owls an early 4-0 jump. Five consecutive batters then reached safely, including a two-run triple by John Martinez for a quick 6-0 lead.
Kender beat out an RBI single to second base in the third inning to get the Bison on the board, but BU stranded runners on first and third with no outs in the inning. The Owls answered with two runs in the bottom half of the frame, and four more in the fourth to take its 12-1 lead.
Bucknell showed some life in the sixth inning with four runs to cut into the big lead. Two walks and an error loaded the bases for an RBI walk by Alexander. Fluharty then singled to center before a great piece of two-out hitting by Dunn scored two more.
Freshman Bryce Mitchell and senior Brady Swenson were back on the mound for the second straight day. Both ended with no earned runs with a strikeout in 0.2 innings. Sophomore Dylan Radtke and junior Kobe Julks made their first appearances on the mound this season.
Julks entered with two outs in the sixth, forcing a groundout to strand two runners. He then got through three-up, three-down seventh, getting a groundball double play. The Owls got some good contact on Julks in the eighth with a double and a single. With the bases loaded, Julks forced another groundball, but an error gave FAU its 10-run lead for the run rule.
Florida Atlantic out-hit Bucknell 15-6 in the ballgame. The Owls had five players with multiple hits, including three-hit games from Martinez and Marshall Lipsey. Nick Wimberly closed the door after the big four-run inning by the Bison. Wimberly pitched the final two innings, allowing just a walk and striking out five.
Bucknell continues the busy Spring Break with a four-game series at Florida International in Miami. The Bison play each of the next four days with the series opener beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
