Baseball Drops Series Opener at Florida International

Senior Tyler Dunn stayed hot with an RBI double in the third. Dunn has at least one hit in seven of the eight games he has played in and at least one RBI in six of the eight games.
Junior Michael Trommer and sophomore Chris Morabito each had two RBIs. Morabito was 1-for-1 with an RBI double in the second inning, and he walked in his other two plate appearances. Sophomore Andrew Swenson and junior Ryan Facinelli also drove in a run in the ballgame.
It has been a rough start to the Spring Break against two strong opponents. The Bison allowed at least 15 runs for the third consecutive game. The BU pitching staff issued 17 walks on top of FIU's 14 hits, tying its season-high in walks set at FAU two days ago.
Morabito's RBI double tied the game 1-1 in the second inning. The Panthers answered with three in the bottom half, then scored three more in each of the next two innings to go ahead 10-3.
Florida International continued to rally on offense, getting a 12-run fifth inning that featured eight hits and five walks to make it 22-3.
Bucknell was shut down after its two-run third inning cut the deficit to 4-3. The Bison went without a hit again until the seventh inning, when they got a three-run rally going late.
Freshman John Calabrese had a pinch-hit single in the seventh inning to help get the rally going. Calabrese earned his first career hit in Tuesday's game at FAU and has now reached base safely in each of the last three games.
Junior Ethan Firestein pitched the bottom of the sixth, striking out two batters to hold FIU to its only scoreless inning of the game.
Bucknell is back in action tomorrow night at FIU Baseball stadium for Game 2 with the Panthers at 6:30 p.m.
