
Bison Take Down Le Moyne 65-41 in Sojka on Education Day

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell women's basketball rode a game-opening 14-0 scoring run in the first quarter all the way to a 65-41 victory over Le Moyne on Tuesday at Sojka in the Bison's Education Day game. Bucknell held the lead throughout the full 40 minutes of play to even its overall record to 3-3 on the season, while the Dolphins fell to 1-5. The Bison remain undefeated at home this season with a 2-0 record.
Bucknell had multiple double-digit scoring runs, including the 14-0 run to open the game and a 10-point run to take them into halftime, which turned into a 12-0 run after a Tuana Coskun layup opened the third quarter. Bucknell is now 209-96 at Sojka Pavilion and has earned double-digit victories in 70 of its last 98 wins.
Coskun had a career-day in Sojka, breaking her career-high in points with 19. She also tied her career-highs in field goals made with seven, three-pointers made with two and blocks with three. Reese Zemitis and Elana Weisman also notched double-digit points with 14 and 10, respectively.
Freshman Mariah Hardy notched her first collegiate points by going 2-for-2 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. Desirae Ashton matched her career-high in points with two on a mid-range jumper. Ella Kreuzer matched her career-high in points with four.
The Bison shot 46.4% from the field, going 26-for-56. They shot 35.7% from three and 80% from the free-throw line with an 8-of-10 mark. Bucknell had a blocking party in Sojka with 10 total blocks in the game. Coskun and Elena Houghton each recorded three to lead the charge. The Bison recorded 15 assists, which was led by Anna Kunzwiler, who had four. Bucknell was outrebounded by Le Moyne 35-34, with Weisman and Coskun leading the charge at six apiece.
Bucknell opened the game on a 14-0 run, keeping Le Moyne scoreless for the first eight minutes of the game. Five different Bison found points in the first quarter including six from Coskun to lead the team. Le Moyne broke the Bucknell streak with two made free throws from Jessica Wangolo and then Dincher hit a jumper to make it 14-4 at the end of the first.
The Dolphins maintained their momentum from the end of the first and opened the second with a bucket for a 6-0 run. Kreuzer was then fouled and made a free-throw to break the streak, but Le Moyne answered with a jumper. Ahead of the second quarter media timeout, Kreuzer hit a three to extend the Bison's lead to ten, which sparked a 10-0 scoring run to end the first half with a 25-8 lead.
The first half of the third quarter went back-and-forth with Bucknell maintaining its lead 37-18 at the media timeout. Coskun hit a three-pointer to tie her career-high with two made threes in a game. Out of the break, Le Moyne went on a 5-0 run to close the gap to 14. Bucknell answered with a 7-0 run of its own and ended the third quarter with a 46-24 lead. Coskun found 10 points in the third quarter and broke her career-high in single-game points.
Zemitis led Bucknell in the final quarter of play with nine fourth-quarter points. The fourth quarter opened with back-and-forth scoring, before the Bison notched an 8-0 run to make it a 30 point game. Bucknell then emptied its bench, giving every player time on the court and maintained its lead to take the 65-41 victory at Sojka.
The Bison will remain at home for a Black Friday game against Brown on Friday, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. in Sojka Pavilion, looking to earn a winning record.
