SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team dominated in its spring opener against Saint Francis, winning 7-0 at the Central PA Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. Will Robinson and Felix Steindl clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory while the Bison swept the Red Flash across the board in singles matches, dropping only one set along the way.
Robinson and Steindl were two-time winners on the day with singles wins later in the match, and Brendan McDonald and Amar Tahirovic did the same with a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles and straight-set victories in singles.Â
It was a quick 6-0 route in the first doubles match by Tahirovic and McDonald. McDonald and Tahirovic are 6-2 together in 2024-25 after a 5-2 mark in the fall. The duo has a career 25-13 record in doubles matches.
Steindl and Robinson quickly followed suit with a 6-2 win in the No. 3 doubles spot to clinch the doubles slate and earn their first doubles win as a duo. It was a needed point, as the Red Flash won 7-5 at No. 2.
Stavrakas and Bain both got back on track with singles victories after dropping their doubles tilt. Bain (6-1, 6-2 at No. 4) took down Kevin Titus Suresh. In the No. 1 spot, Stavrakas won both sets 6-2.
Robinson (6-1, 6-1 at No. 5) and Tahirovic (6-1, 6-1 at No. 2) each picked up convincing wins with Robinson's win serving as the match-clincher.
At No. 6, Steindl (6-4, 6-3) earned a great win against Noah Potts. The two were level at 4-4 in the first set before Steindl won the final two games to take the first set. Trailing 3-2 in the second set, Steindl rattled off wins in four straight games to seal his match.
McDonald picked up a win in the No. 3 slot, playing the only match that went three sets. Saint Francis's Mathis Tremblay won the first set 7-5 before McDonald bounced back with a 6-2 second set. Tremblay took the first four points of the third-set tiebreaker, but McDonald took over the match, tying the score at 5-5 before pulling out an 11-9 set to cap off an exciting day for the Bison.
Up next, the Bison travel to Penn State to face the Nittany Lions tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. Â
