LEWISBURG, Pa. – Taylor Kopan scored four of her career-high five goals to lead Bucknell's second-half charge, as the Bison came from three goals down to rally past Colgate 15-13 on a blustery Saturday afternoon at Graham Field at Holmes Stadium. Megan Krestinski also set a career high with seven points on four goals and three assists, and Bucknell picked up an important Patriot League win to get to 2-3 in conference play and move into sole possession of sixth place.
Taylor McClain scored a goal and handed out three assists, and Emily Baird and Katie Browne added two goals apiece for the Bison, who finished with a 32-31 shot advantage. Colleen Kazanjian tallied eight saves, including two big ones in succession late in the third quarter to help spark the comeback.
With two Colgate players in the penalty box, Krestinski snapped a 13-13 tie with a rip off a Braeden Siverson feed with 7:07 remaining in the game. Raiders goalie Lauren Solis made two saves to keep it a one-goal game, but Kopan added a big insurance goal with 2:43 left.
After a long discussion by the officials to determine if Bucknell called a timeout before a change of possession, the Bison were awarded the ball back, and McClain fed Kopan for her fifth of the day to give them their first two-goal lead.
Phoebe Macleod came up with an important caused turnover just before Devon Maillet could get a shot launched, and Bucknell was able to run out the clock.
Two straight goals from Kait Henning gave Colgate an 11-8 lead with 9:30 left in the third quarter, matching the visitors' biggest cushion of the day. Baird powered her way to the goal just 29 seconds later, and then Kopan scored a shorthanded goal from the 8-meter spot and then another about 90 seconds later to knot the game at 11-all. Kopan's third straight goal with 19 seconds left gave the Bison a 12-11 lead after three. That was the team's first lead since it was 1-0 in the opening minute.
Krestinski had a hand in each of Bucknell's first five goals of the day, scoring two an assisting on three. Her tally 56 seconds into the match opened the scoring, but the Bison were fighting from behind after Colgate scored four in a row to go up 4-1.
Bucknell did tie the game at 6-6 after consecutive goals from McClain, Kopan, and Browne, but Colgate finished the half on a 3-1 run to take a 9-7 lead to the locker room.
Lauren Thompson paced the Raiders (1-11, 1-4 PL) with four goals and an assist. Lucy Licata scored three times and nabbed nine draw controls, and Kyra Lucey handed out five assists. Solis finished with nine saves.
Siverson led the Bison with six draw controls, and Krestinski and Catherine Dineen caused three turnovers apiece. Bucknell won the draw control battle 18-14.
