Women's Lacrosse Suffers 12-9 Loss to American in D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Bucknell women's lacrosse team led by as many as four late in the second quarter, but the hosting American Eagles limited the Bison to just one goal in the second half and used a 7-0 run to come from behind and win 12-9 at the Jacobs Recreational Complex Saturday afternoon.
Taylor Kopan posted her second consecutive hat trick, and five other Bison found the back of the net, but all of Bucknell's points outside of a late Caroline Sheridan goal and Megan Krestinski assist were registered in the first half. Krestinski led all players with five points on four assists and a goal. Braeden Siverson scored two goals and tallied a team-high three caused turnovers.
Bucknell fell to 2-4 in Patriot League play with the loss, and American improved to 2-5.
The two teams went back and forth early in the game, but two separate 3-0 runs allowed the Bison to jump out to an 8-4 lead with 5:43 to play in the first half. The Eagles scored with 2:45 left in the second quarter, ending Bucknell's second 3-0 run and kicking off their own streak, which lasted deep into the fourth quarter.
Emerging from halftime down 8-5, American scored six unanswered in the third quarter to take the lead. Kellie Linehan, who started the 7-0 run, scored a goal with 7:44 to go in the third that gave the Eagles their first lead since the ninth minute of the contest when they were up 2-1. American added two more after the Linehan goal to enter the fourth quarter with an 11-8 lead. The Eagles outshot the Bison 11-5 in the third and led 4-2 in draw controls.
It was Bucknell that saw the bulk of the opportunities in the fourth, leading 7-3 in shots, but they placed just two on target. Sheridan finally put an end to the nearly 32-minute scoring drought and cut the American lead to 11-9. The Bison got off three more shots, but all went wide, and American added one more insurance goal with 14 seconds to play.
Allie Boyce scored Bucknell's first goal of the game to add to her season total and posted an assist to finish with a pair of points, and Katie Browne found the back of the net as well while leading the team with three draw controls. Six different Bison recorded two ground balls each.
Colleen Kazanjian totaled nine saves for the Bison. American alternated between Lexi Rakis and Caleigh Forti in goal, and the pair combined to make six stops. American's Annabelle Jackson scored a game-high four goals.
Bucknell returns to Lewisburg to host Lafayette at Holmes Stadium on Wednesday, April 17 at 7 p.m.
