WEST POINT, N.Y. – Billy Kender hit two of Bucknell's six home runs on the day, helping the Bucknell baseball squad to a doubleheader split at first-place Army West Point on Saturday at Doubleday Field. The Black Knights held on for a 5-3 win in the opener, and the Bison won a 10-6 slugfest in the nightcap.
Kender and Jacob Corson both went deep within the first three batters in the top of the first in game one. Bucknell then cleared the fences four times in game two, highlighted by Brady Karp's grand slam, which was his first career homer. Karp reached base five times in the doubleheader.
The Black Knights hit five home runs of their own in the two games, with three coming from Derek Berg.
Bucknell is now 17-21 overall and 9-12 in the Patriot League. First-place Army is now 21-17, 11-6, and maintained its league lead by percentage points over 13-8 Navy. Holy Cross and Lafayette are tied for third at 8-9, followed by Bucknell and Lehigh (6-11).

Game 2 – Bucknell 10, Army 6
Four home runs and a strong start on the mound from freshman Jake Schultz helped Bucknell earn the doubleheader split.
Bucknell tagged Army starter Mike Ruggieri (1-5) for eight runs and seven hits in 4.1 innings, with all of the runs scoring on long balls. Grant Voytovich's second home run of the season gave the Bison a 1-0 lead in the second inning, and then freshman Chris Morabito hooked a shot inside the right-field foul pole for a three-run shot in the fourth. Karp followed with a double, and then Kender went the other way and cleared the wall in right-center to make it 6-0.
Sam Ruta's two-run homer pulled Army within 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth, but Karp broke it open in the fifth. With one out, Voytovich singled and Dunn walked, ending the day for Ruggieri. Reliever Bryce Brownlee walked Luke Nascimento to load the bases. He got the second out with a strikeout, but Karp yanked a pitch over the wall in left. The grand slam was the first career homer for the junior shortstop, who also had an outstanding day defensively.
Berg hit a pair of solo homers and Justin Lehman drove in a run on an infield hit to keep Army in the game, but reliever Jonathan Adelmann got three quick outs after allowing Berg's leadoff homer in the bottom of the ninth. The freshman struck out Ruta, the Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year, to end it.
Karp, Voytovich, and Sean Keys all collected two hits for the Bison. Berg went 3-for-5 to lead Army's 11-hit attack.
Schultz (2-3) allowed three runs on five hits while striking out four over five innings. Graeme Carroll covered three big innings in middle relief before turning it over to Adelmann in the ninth.
Game 1 – Army 5, Bucknell 3
The Bison got out to a great start in game one, as Kender homered off Lehman on the first pitch of the afternoon, and two batters later Corson followed with another solo shot to make it 2-0.
Army tied it with two in the first and took the lead for good with two in the second. Berg's solo homer made it 2-1, and then Coleson Titus tied it with a two-out, RBI single. Two more run-scoring singles from Braden Golinski and William Parker put the Black Knights in front, and they made it 5-2 when the red-hot Parker hit a solo homer in the fourth.
Bucknell got a run back in the fifth on Corson's RBI single with two outs, but Lehman (4-2) got a fly ball to strand men at second and third and then retired all six Bison in the sixth and seventh innings to finish off the complete-game win.
Tyler O'Neill (3-5) struck out five in his five innings of work but was touched for five runs and 11 hits. Brady Swenson worked a 1-2-3 sixth with a strikeout.
