WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point used a five-run rally in the bottom of the fourth inning to break open a tight contest, and the Black Knights went on to a 14-4 win over Bucknell in Patriot League baseball action on Sunday at Doubleday Field.
Sean Keys and Chris Morabito both had two hits and two runs batted in, and Tyler Dunn also had two hits for the Bison, who fell to 17-22 overall and 9-13 in the Patriot League. First-place Army (22-17, 12-6) received two home runs and three RBIs each from Derek Berg and William Parker.
The Black Knights scored four times in the first inning against Bison rookie starter Jack O'Malley (3-4), and Berg's first homer of the day made it 6-0 in the third. Bucknell got right back in the game with four runs in the top of the fourth. An error and a Dunn single started the rally, and later in the inning Morabito and Keys delivered two-run singles.
Army quickly responded, as Parker's second homer of the day leading off the bottom of the fourth made it 7-4, and then two errors in the outfield, a passed ball, and a squeeze bunt contributed to four more runs scoring. Coleson Titus hit a two-run homer in the fifth to make it 13-4, and then Berg invoked the run rule and ended the game with a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh.
Bucknell has four home games on the schedule next week. The Bison host Villanova in a non-league game on Tuesday, and then Lafayette comes in for a three-game set Friday through Sunday to close out Bucknell's regular season.
