
Softball Falls 9-3 to Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y.- The Bucknell Bison softball team (14-21, 5-5 Patriot League) fell 9-3 to the Colgate Raiders (14-23, 4-6 Patriot League) on Sunday morning.
Colgate jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Bucknell used doubles by MaKenzie Hilling and Savannah Jones to grab a 3-2 advantage. The lead did not last an inning as Colgate clubbed a three-run homer. The Raiders added four more runs to seal the 9-3 victory.
Recap
Madison Roukey started in the circle for Bucknell and immediately ran into trouble. Rachel Carney singled and stole second. Adrienne Nardone lifted a pitch over the left field wall for the 2-0 lead.
The Bison struck back in the third inning. Sarah Zimmerman led off with a single and swiped second. Haley Speicher hit an infield single. Hilling doubled down the left field line to score Zimmerman. Zoie Smith struck out and Brooke Popella flew out. Savannah Jones saved the situation with a clutch double to left field to score Speicher and Hilling for the 3-2 lead.
Colgate regained the lead in the bottom half of the frame. A single and a walk set up the classic Earl Weaver three-run homer for Kara Fusco. Roukey obtained two more outs but the lead was lost to Bucknell.
The Raiders tacked on two runs in the fifth inning. An error and double scored the first run. Hunter Vestal was inserted for Roukey. A sacrifice fly made it 7-3.
Mea Consentino started the sixth inning for the Bison. A walk was first followed by two grounders. Carney hit Colgate's third homer of the game, increasing the lead to 9-3.
Bucknell tried to rally in the final inning but could not generate any offense.
