LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell women's track & field thrower Isabelle Roes has been selected to participate in this year's Women's Sports Foundation and NBC Sports Student-Athlete Mentoring Program - an initiative designed to inspire and support women collegiate student-athletes in translating the valuable skills they have acquired on the field of play, into successful careers.
This year, 18 student-athletes representing 16 colleges and universities across 9 sports have been paired with NBC Sports mentors from various business functions, including legal, human resources, marketing, digital, communications, operations, IT, finance, sales, and media production.
Roes expands on length about her opportunity:
"As part of my experience with the WSF/NBC Sports Student-Athlete Mentoring Program, I am working with a diverse group of athletes from across the country and our mentors from NBC Sports. My team and I are developing a business model for increasing female viewership of the NBA, which we will present at NBC Headquarters in April 2025. The goal of this program is to connect female student-athletes with current NBC Sports and WSF employees to provide guidance and development as the mentee transitions from an academic to a career role. This program has been a wonderful experience so far for me as I have been able to connect with a wide range of athletes from other institutions and sports, have gained valuable experience toward a career in sports management, and have been able to learn from the guidance of my mentor, Alexa Maremaa. Through this program, I hope to continue developing my passion for advancing women's athletics and gain experience to help prepare me for my future career path."
Roes became the second athlete from Bucknell selected for this exclusive honor. Class of 2024 graduate Caroline McGann broke the ice last year for Bison participants.
Commencing in November 2024 and running through April 2025, participants will engage around topics including career development, networking and personal branding, interpersonal communication, interviewing skills, and navigating the workplace. NBC Sports mentors will share their professional experience, insights, and networks, while the Women's Sports Foundation will facilitate the monthly sessions. Throughout the program, participants will have the opportunity to work together to complete a group project focused on a topic of shared interest by the Women's Sports Foundation and NBC Sports. Each group will present their project at the culmination event at NBC Sports Headquarters in Stamford, CT.
Outside of track & field, she has served as an Ambassador for Bucknell's chapter of Morgan's Message and participates in Igniting Leaders.
