RESULTS
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bison men's swimming and diving squad is in fourth place after the first day of the Bucknell Invitational, which got underway on Friday at Kinney Natatorium. Chris Kopac notched Bucknell's highest finish of the day with a fourth-place showing in the 500-yard freestyle, and he was one of six Bison to qualify for finals in individual events.
Delaware leads the six-team men's field with 414.5 points, with UMBC a close second with 396. Seton Hall is in third with 334.5, followed by Bucknell (290.5), Fordham (265.5), and Davidson (178).
Kopac anchored the 200 freestyle relay, which kicked off the evening finals session. Bucknell finished in seventh place in a tightly contested race, but its time of 1:21.91 was just four-hundredths of a second outside the top-10 in team history. Justin DiSanto, Dante Buonadonna, Colin Smith, and Kopac comprised the relay.
Kopac came right back to place fourth in the 500 free in 4:31.92. Alex Crossing also made the final and placed sixth.
Andy Dorsel and Buonadonna both reached the final in the 200 individual medley, and the freshman Buonadonna put his name in the Bucknell top-10 lists for the first time. Dorsel placed fifth in 1:49.71 – he is already the third-fastest performer in team history – while Buonadonna was eighth in 1:51.52. Buonadonna's faster prelim time of 1:50.47 moved him into the No. 10 spot in team history, nudging out Hall-of-Famer Jim Harvey, who was best known as a sprint freestyler but remained on the 200 IM list for 36 years.
DiSanto had a busy evening, as he placed eighth in the 50 free in between leading off the 200 free relay and anchoring the 400 medley relay. Caleb Hagadorn, Will Hedges, Finn Russell, and DiSanto closed out the night by placing fifth in the 400 medley relay in 3:21.07.
