RESULTS
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's swimming & diving team had a 2-1 day in a quadrangular meet on Saturday at Kinney Natatorium. Now 2-2 on the season, the Bison routed American (231-66) and Lafayette (238-62) but fell to Navy 172-117.
Bucknell finished ahead of Lafayette in every event and in front of American in all but one. The Midshipmen, who have won 20 straight Patriot League titles dating back to Bucknell's championship in 2003, had the first-place finisher in every event but didn't take points in the final five after clinching the meet.
Shane Wynne, Andy Dorsel, and Justin DiSanto all had runner-up finishes to Navy in individual events. One of Bucknell's best races of the day came in the 200-yard butterfly, while Wynne and Dorsel finished 2-3, only four-tenths of a second apart.
Dorsel was later edged by Navy's Noah Robinson by only a tenth of a second in the 200 breaststroke, with Wil Hedges taking third.
In the 100 free, DiSanto was a close second to Navy's Everet Andrew. DiSanto also tied for third in the 50 free and he anchored both of Bucknell's relays. The 200 medley relay was third behind two Navy teams at the start of the meet, and the 200 free relay was second to Navy but earned first-place points with the Midshipmen in exhibition mode.
Other Bison swimmers who captured events when compared to American and Lafayette were Chris Kopac in the 200 and 500 free, William Shoemaker in the 1000 free, Caleb Hagadorn in the 100 back, Hedges in the 100 breast, Braden Beagle in the 200 back, Wynne in the 100 fly, and Dante Buonadonna in the 100 IM.
In the diving events, Jack Krug in the 1-meter and Connor Thurston in the 3-meter both took third behind only Navy competitors. Thurston's score of 271.65 on the 3-meter board was only .3 away from cracking the top 10 in team history.
Next up is the Bucknell Invitational at Kinney Natatorium Nov. 22-24. This is a three-day trials/finals meet designed to emulate the postseason championships later in the season.
