Bucknell Men's Water Polo Finishes with a Win at Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Bucknell men's water polo team earned a 15-7 win over Iona on Sunday at the Princeton Invitational. The Bison went 1-2 over the weekend, falling 14-8 against No. 15 Cal Baptist and 14-4 against No. 18 Harvard on Saturday before rebounding with a convincing win over Iona. Bucknell now stands 2-5 on the season, with both wins over the Gaels.
Up next, Bucknell heads home for the Bucknell Invitational with its first game against Fordham on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Kinney Natatorium.
Bucknell 15, Iona 7
The Bison jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first half of the game against Iona.
Bucknell wasted no time earning a 5-1 run in the first quarter. The Bison saw goals from sophomore center defender Jack Murrad, sophomore center Maxime Touzot, junior attacker Shay Gillearn, and a pair of goals from junior center defender Hasan Mogultay.
The Bison continued to pull ahead in the second quarter, scoring three goals. Mogultay earned his third goal of the game, while freshman attacker Sean Michael Tunnicliff and junior attacker Jack Bruce had a goal each. The Gaels answered back with a second goal from Andrew Miller.
Bucknell and Iona went 4-4 in the third quarter. Sophomore attacker Aleksa Stefanovic had a pair of goals, followed by Gillearn and Mogultay, who tallied a goal apiece.
The Bison finished off the final half with a 3-1 run behind goals from junior center Matt Ryckman, freshman center defender Gregory Alexander Nordheim, and Gillearn.
Mogultay led the way with four goals, while Gillearn had three and Stefanovic two.
Up next, Bucknell heads home for the Bucknell Invitational with its first game against Fordham on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Kinney Natatorium.
