
Bucknell Men's Water Polo Falls in Day One of Bucknell Invitational

Lewisburg, Pa. - The Bucknell men's water polo team fell to two ranked teams Saturday at the Bucknell Invitational at the Kinney Natatorium. The Bison started the morning with a 14-11 loss to No. 17 Fordham, later falling 13-7 to No. 5 Princeton to finish day one of the two-day event.Â
No. 17 Fordham 14, Bucknell 11
The Bison and Rams battled it out throughout the first half. Bucknell had the first two goals of the competition when sophomore attacker Shay Gillearn and first-year attacker Aleksa Stefanovic had two unanswered goals. Fordham scored its first goal at 4:38 to put them on the board.Â
Bison put together a 3-2 run to end the first quarter and took its final lead going into the second 5-3. Â
In an effort to close the gap in the second half, Bucknell scored four goals to pull within 10-9. Three of the Bisons' four goals went unanswered, and first-year center defender Jack Murad scored with 22 seconds left on the clock in the third quarter.Â
Bucknell had the final shot of the game when Gillearn went one-on-one with the goalie and scored his third goal of the game with 33 seconds remaining.
No. 5 Princeton 13, Bucknell 7
Stefanovic, Gillearn, and junior center defender Hasan Mogultay scored for the Bison, but it was not enough to combat the Tigers' 9-3 run in the first half of play.Â
Roko Pozaric scored three goals for Princeton, which earlier also defeated Air Force 13-2.
