WEST POINT, N.Y. – Allie Boyce scored four goals to eclipse the 30-goal mark for the second straight year, but 14th-ranked Army West Point broke open a close game by scoring the final seven goals of the day and went on to defeat Bucknell 15-7 on Saturday at Michie Stadium.
Julia Franzoni and Jolie Riedell scored three goals each and Kathleen Sullivan tallied a goal and four assists for the Black Knights, who avenged last season's loss at Graham Field and improved to 12-1 overall and 6-0 in the Patriot League. Bucknell fell to 5-7 overall and 1-4 in the Patriot League but now have three of their final four games of the regular season at home.
Bucknell got out to a good start in this one, taking a 2-0 lead on goals from Boyce and Katie Browne in the opening five minutes. Army scored the next three, but the game would be tied on four occasions in a closely contested first half.
Boyce scored back-to-back goals to erase a 5-3 deficit, and Megan Krestinski tied the game at 6-6 with a goal off a Taylor McClain feed late in the second quarter. Julia Gorajek scored with 1:48 to go to give the Black Knights a 7-6 lead at the break.
Brigid Duffy opened the second-half scoring before Taylor Kopan answered for the Bison to make it 8-7 four minutes into the third period, but that would be their last goal of the day. Allison Reilly's goal with 2:36 left in the third gave Army the two-goal cushion back, Riedell followed 39 seconds later, and then the Black Knights outscored Bucknell 5-0 in the fourth quarter.
Army finished with a narrow 24-23 edge in total shots, while the Bison led 19-18 in ground balls. The Black Knights did have a significant edge in draw controls (17-9) and saves (9-4).
Emily Baird led the Bison with a career-high five caused turnovers, while Tatumn Kohlbrenner nabbed four ground balls.
After scoring 36 goals as a rookie a year ago, Boyce now has 33 this season with at least four games remaining. She has at least one goal in every game and has tallied four goals in three of her last four outings.
Bucknell's school-record streak of reaching double figures in goals ended at 10. The last time the Bison did not reach the 10-goal mark was in a 16-6 loss at Penn State in the season opener back on Feb. 11.
Next up for the Bison is a Senior Day home game against American next Saturday at 1 p.m.
