
Men’s Tennis Falls to Navy, 5-2

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell won the doubles point and received a straight-set win from freshman Brendan McDonald at No. 6 singles, but Navy won a number of tightly contested singles matches and defeated the Bison 5-2 on Saturday at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
On Senior Day, the senior tandem of Nick Mueller and Michael Owen picked up an impressive 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles, and with the doubles point on the line, the all-freshman duo of Amar Tahirovic and Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega came from 1-4 down to win 6-4 and get the Bison off to a good start.
McDonald was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Aniketh Ayinala at No. 6 singles to make it 2-0 Bison. Navy took a 3-2 lead in the match with wins from Gavin Segraves at No. 2, Luke Garner at No. 3, and Herrick Legaspi at No. 4, but the two remaining matches both went to a third set.
Harrison Gold took the opening set 6-2 from Sasha Panyan at No. 1, but Panyan came back to take the next two 6-4, 6-4 to clinch it for the Midshipmen. At No. 5 singles, Bucknell's Tim Zelikovsky and Navy's Jeffrey Etterbeek split the first two sets, and Etterbeek won a third-set super tiebreaker 12-10 to finish the day.
Now 12-6 overall and 2-2 in the Patriot League, the Bison have a quick turnaround before visiting Lafayette on Sunday at 1 p.m.
