
Men's Lacrosse Suffers 11-8 Loss to Lehigh Saturday

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's lacrosse team came storming back from an 8-4 deficit against Lehigh and tied the game with four unanswered goals in the third quarter, but the Mountain Hawks prevailed with an 11-8 win Saturday afternoon at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
Bucknell nearly kept pace with Lehigh in shots, attempting 37 compared to Lehigh's 39, and held a 20-13 advantage in turnovers, but the Mountain Hawks seized control at the faceoff x by winning 21 of 22. The Bison led just once with the opening score of the game, but they tied things up on two different occasions after facing multi-goal deficits.
Connor Davis registered his fifth hat trick of the season to lead the Bison in goals, and Dutch Furlong matched Davis with three points on a goal and a pair of assists. Jack Feda and Will Hopkins also posted two points each.
Lehigh's Scott Cole led all players with six points on equal goals and assists, and Mike Sisselberger added a goal while going 20 for 21 on faceoffs.
Trailing 8-4 with 10:23 to play in the third, Richie Striano sparked the 4-0 run that lasted the remainder of the frame and included two of Davis' goals as well as a strike by Feda. Bucknell tripled Lehigh's shots in the third period (15-5), and the Mountain Hawks gave it away six times.
Bucknell held the Mountain Hawks off the board for more than 15 minutes before the run ended with 11:06 to play in the game. Lehigh tallied all three goals in the final frame to secure the win.
Bucknell battled back from a 3-1 deficit earlier in the game with back-to-back goals by Davis and Hopkins over the final 1:45 of the first quarter. The game was tied again at 4-4 in the second, but Lehigh scored three unanswered to end the first half and struck again on an extra-man opportunity early in the third to grab their largest lead of the game.
Bucknell's lone faceoff win came during the fourth quarter, but the Bison were unable to find the back of the cage over the final 19:43 of game time.
Rookie goalie Jaz Zanelli totaled 13 saves, while Lehigh's Nick Pecora registered 14.
Bucknell is back on the road Saturday, April 15 to face Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass.
