NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Bucknell men's golf team posted rounds of 298 and 295 on Monday as play got underway at the Bash at the Beach, hosted by Appalachian State at the Surf Golf and Beach Club. Blake Wisdom's even-par 71 in the first round was the low card of the day for the Bison, who are in 14th place in a strong field.
Wisdom (71-76) and Jackson Bussell (74-73) are leading the Bucknell contingent with 147 totals through 36 holes. Michael Rudnick (75-74), Andres Barraza (78-72), and James Key (80-82) rounded out the starting five, while Josh Holtschlag (74-74) and James Robbins (77-75) both played as individuals.
Wisdom had a consistent day, making 14 pars in each round. His 28 pars are second-most in the field. Only a 5-over stretch on holes 12 and 13 in the afternoon round separates him from an even-par standing and a spot in the top 20. Bussell made two birdies and 14 pars on the way to his second-round 73.
Oral Roberts posted a pair of 281s to grab the team lead with a 6-under total of 562. Appalachian State is four shots back at 566, while Connecticut (567), Long Island (570), and Utah Valley (571) round out the top five.
The top of the individual leaderboard is extremely crowded with 15 players under par and within five shots of the lead. Utah Valley's Caden Weber shot 66-70 for a 6-under total of 136. Three players are one back at 5-under.
The third and final round gets underway on Tuesday morning.
