NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Blake Wisdom fired a 4-under-par 67, one stroke shy of his career best and two off the Bucknell record, to lead the Bison golf team to a 292 total in the third and final round of the Bash at the Beach, hosted by Appalachian State at the Surf Golf and Beach Club.
Bucknell moved up a spot to a 13th-place finish with an 885 total over 54 holes. Oral Roberts posted a third straight 281 for a 9-under 843 total and a six-shot win over runner-up Connecticut. Appalachian State (856), Long Island (859), Delaware (862), and Utah Valley (862) rounded out the top five.
The three Patriot League teams in the field -- Navy, Bucknell, and Holy Cross – all finished in succession with scores of 884, 885, and 886, respectively.
Wisdom's 67 was tied for the second-lowest round of the day, behind only the 65 posted by Rhode Island's Brandon Gillis. Wisdom made seven birdies, including three in his final five holes to get to 4-under on the day and 1-over for the tournament. After posting 71-76 on Monday, he moved up 31 places on the leaderboard into a tie for 14th.
Wisdom posted his third 67 of the 2022-23 season and the fourth of his career. His best collegiate round was a 66 at the UNC Greensboro Martin Downs Collegiate in the spring of 2020. Ben Pellicani (2005) and Chris Tanabe (2019) share the school record with 65s.
Freshman Andres Barraza also had a strong day with an even-par 71. Barraza and Michael Rudnick made four birdies apiece. Rudnick finished with a 76, and James Key posted a 78. All four of those scores counted as Jackson Bussell, who shot 74-73 in the first two rounds, had to withdraw.
Caden Weber of Utah Valley was the medalist with a 7-under 205 (66-70-69). UConn's Jared Nelson and Long Island's Marcelo Mexsen were both one shot back.
Bucknell's next tournament action is the UC San Diego Invitational at La Costa Resort on March 27-28.
