EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Bucknell women's lacrosse team saw nine different players hit the back of the net in an 11-8 win over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium. The Bison have won four straight games to get to 4-2 on the season, marking the team's longest winning streak since 2016.
Allie Boyce and Taylor McClain both logged two goals and an assist, and freshman Alex Nesbitt had a goal and three assists for the Bison, who scored six first-quarter goals and led 8-2 at the half and 10-3 after three quarters. Fast starts have been a theme for Bucknell in this winning run. The Bison have now outscored their last four opponents 44-10 in the first half.
Emily Baird had a huge all-around performance in the midfield, tallying a goal, an assist, four caused turnovers, five draw controls, and two ground balls. The Bison defense harassed Mount St. Mary's into 26 turnovers.
Abby Osmeyer and Dani Donoghue scored three times each for Mount St. Mary's (1-5), which has played in each of the last two NCAA Tournaments. The Mount won Northeast Conference titles in 2021 and 2022 and are now in their first season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Bucknell didn't waste any time in this one, as Caroline Miller converted a free-position attempt 46 seconds into the match. Tatumn Kohlbrenner followed a little over three minutes later, and the Bison never relinquished the lead.
Osmeyer got one back for Mount St. Mary's, but Nesbitt set up McClain and Megan Krestinski for goals that ignited an 8-1 Bison run. Aliza Thir and Taylor Kopan scored in the final minute of the first quarter, the latter coming with six seconds left, and Boyce's goal late in the second made it 8-2 at intermission.
McClain scored a shorthanded goal 26 seconds into the second half, and eight scoreless minutes later Boyce added her second of the day for a 10-2 lead.
Mount St. Mary's scored four in a row to pull within 10-6 with 6:51 left in the fourth period. Nesbitt scored a big goal off a McClain feed to end that run, and the Mount tacked on two more consolation goals in the final minute to make the final 11-8.
Bucknell finished with a 27-16 shot advantage. Goalie Symone Ryans tallied four saves, while her counterpart Madison Bradley made 10 stops.
Next up for the Bison is the Patriot League opener at home next Saturday against Navy at 12 p.m.
