
Women's Tennis Heads South for Weekend Matches at George Washington, Washington & Lee

Bucknell at a Glance
• Bucknell continues its seven-match road swing to open the spring season with trips to George Washington and Washington & Lee this weekend. The Bison are 2-5 (0-1 PL) following a narrow loss to Saint Francis last Saturday.
• The Bison won the doubles point against the Red Flash and took two of six singles matchups, but Saint Francis' Valeria Vinces ultimately sealed the match with a win at No. 5 singles.
• Whitney King and Mirra Manolov are both 2-0 in singles over the last two matches. Meanwhile, Anna Lajos and Abby Platt came away victorious at No. 2 doubles against the Red Flash, and Kate Novak teamed up with Caroline Marcus to earn a win at No. 3 doubles.
• Lajos currently leads the Bison in singles wins with nine this season. Platt has a team-high eight doubles wins.
• Bucknell went 12-10 (3-3 PL) during the 2021-22 season, securing its highest win total since 2018-19. The Bison ended up falling to Loyola in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Championships, 4-2.
• The Bison graduated their lone All-Patriot Leaguer, Daniela Bellini, in the spring. They welcomed two freshmen in the fall and entered the spring season with eight total on the roster.
• Juniors Novak and Tyne Miller are serving as team captains this season.
• Lajos led the Bison with an 8-4 singles record in the fall, including a 2-1 mark in duals.
• Bucknell plays its first seven matches of the spring on the road before hosting its first home match on Feb. 19.
• Bucknell is under the direction of fourth-year head coach Tammy Cecchini. She was previously the head coach at Valparaiso from 2015 to 2018 and spent the 2014-15 season with Valpo as an assistant coach.

George Washington at a Glance
• George Washington fell to 0-2-1 (0-0 A10) with a 6-1 loss at William & Mary last weekend. Junior Gabriela Giraldo tallied her second singles victory of the season in the loss, winning in straight sets at the No. 2 position.
• The Colonials also have a loss against James Madison and a 3-3 draw against Delaware State this season.
• George Washington was 11-10 (5-3 A10) last season and reached the Atlantic 10 semifinals, where it fell 4-3 to Fordham.
• Junior Stella Wiesemann was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Preseason Team. Wiesemann went 16-4 in singles last year, playing solely at the No. 1 flight.
Washington & Lee at a Glance
• Washington & Lee is off to a hot 4-0 start, and each of its wins were in the fall over Old Dominion Athletic Conference rivals. The Generals have not competed since attending the ITA Cup in October.
• A long-time ODAC power, Washington & Lee was picked to win its 20th consecutive conference title in 2023. The Generals returned three of their four All-ODAC players from last season, including 2022 Player of the Year Gabi Moss.
• Juniors Izzy Koziol and Gabi Moss are tied for the team lead with 6-1 singles records. Moss is 2-0 in the No. 1 position.
• Freshman Lauren Long and junior Margaret Carlton are 8-3 as a doubles team this year and are 3-0 in dual matches.
A Look Ahead
• Bucknell visits St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Feb. 18 before returning to host Coppin State for its first home match of the year.
