Women's Tennis Suffers 6-1 Defeat on the Road at George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Junior Tyne Miller earned her first spring singles win, and six times George Washington players were forced to win more than six games to clinch sets, but the Bucknell women's tennis team ended up falling 6-1 to the Colonials in its first match of the weekend.
George Washington snagged the doubles point and won three in a row in singles to end the afternoon for the Bison. Miller, who was playing in the No. 3 singles position, won her sixth match of the season with a 6-3, 6-3 decision over George Washington junior Lindsay Thompson. Miller and Anna Lajos were also leading in their No. 2 doubles match before the Colonials clinched the 1-0 start.
Whitney King played a tight first set against Preseason All-Atlantic 10 junior Stella Wiesemann before falling 7-5, 6-0 in the top singles spot. It was a similar story at No. 2 singles, as junior Gabriela Giraldo battled to a 6-4, 7-5 win over Anna Lajos.
The Colonials sealed the win at No. 5 singles, where twice Kate Novak had George Washington junior Charlotte Bell on the ropes before falling 7-5, 7-5. Bison freshman Abby Platt also played into a tiebreak situation against senior Sarah Bodewes and forced a third set, but the George Washington veteran won 11-9 in the third.
Bucknell heads into Virginia on Saturday to take on Washington & Lee at 1 p.m.
