Women's Tennis Handed 4-3 Loss at Saint Francis

EBENSBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team jumped out to a 2-0 lead after seizing the doubles point and grabbing a win at No. 1 singles, but the Bison ultimately suffered a tough 4-3 loss at Saint Francis Saturday at the Ebensburg Tennis Center.
Anna Lajos teamed up with Abby Platt, who saw her first spring action on Saturday, to win 6-1 over Anoek Pruijmboom and Valeira Vinces in the opening doubles match.
After dropping the second doubles match and sitting tied at 1-1, Bucknell's third tandem, consisting of Kate Novak and Caroline Marcus, put up a gutsy performance to win 7-6 (3) over Kelly Dowuona and Marie Discini, lifting the Bison to a 1-0 lead.
Whitney King then picked up a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 win over Dominique Yeo in the top singles spot to improve the Bison advantage to 2-0 over the hosting Red Flash.
Saint Francis went on to win three straight points at No. 3, No. 2 and No. 4 singles before the Bison got on the board again. Bucknell took one more win at No. 6 singles, as freshman Mirra Manolov won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
Both Lajos and Tyne Miller forced extra sets before falling in the third.
The Red Flash ended the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win by Vinces at No. 5 singles.
Bucknell returns to action next weekend with a match at George Washington on Friday, Feb. 10 before visiting Washington & Lee on Saturday, Feb. 11.
