Women's Swim & Dive Competes at 2023 Fall Invite

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's swimming & diving team competed at the Fall Invite at Kinney Natatorium Saturday afternoon. Three Bison won events, four finished as runners-up, and the Bison dominated the 200 backstroke with a 1-2-3 finish.
Emma Feld was the first of three Bison to touch the wall first in the 200 backstroke, posting a 2:02.49. She was followed by Esme Hunter (2:07.08) and Sydney Dettmann (2:09.11). The Bison also finished both first and second in the 200 freestyle, as Kyla Kelly won the event and Skye Sunderhauf came in just behind her. Kelly also finished second in the 100 freestyle and was part of Bucknell's third-place 200 freestyle relay and third-place 200 medley relay teams.
Another Bison winner was rookie Virginia Hastings, who grabbed first place by a sizable margin in the 400 IM with a 4:30.76. She was followed by third-place finisher and fellow classmate Kelly Byrne. Dettmann, along with her third-place finish in the 200 backstroke, added another third-place mark in the 100 freestyle.
Liz Dokina grabbed third in the 200 breaststroke, leading Bison that took fourth and fifth in the event as well.
Bucknell's other runner-up was Meghan Catherwood in the 3-meter dive. The junior placed third in the 1-meter as well to add to her strong early season resume. Also on the boards, senior Kate Gottwald placed third in the 3-meter.
Hanna Bingley in the 100 breaststroke and Rylie Giles in the 100 butterfly round out Bucknell's top-three finishers.
Bucknell, which jumped out to a 1-1 start to the season in dual meets last weekend, is back in action in two weeks when it heads to Annapolis, Md. to take on Navy, American and Lafayette in a quad meet on Saturday, Nov. 4.
