LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's swimming & diving team went up against Binghamton and Seton Hall in the Fall Invite at Kinney Natatorium Saturday afternoon. The Bison won four events, grabbed seven runner-up finishes, and the divers had a field day with three program top-10 scores.
Rookie Riley Twiss shined with two wins, taking first in the 200 butterfly and in the 400 IM. His 1:51.21 in the 200 fly was just off the school's 10th-best time of 1:50.99. Twiss was joined by Braden Beagle as Bucknell's other individual event winner, as the sophomore touched the wall first in the 200 backstroke.
Bucknell's 200 medley relay team was a winner, as Chris Fabian, Noah Basista, John Gehrig and Finn Russell finished nearly two seconds faster than second-place Binghamton. Fabian, Gehrig and Russell were also part of Bucknell's runner-up 200 freestyle relay team along with Drew Greene.
On the boards, sophomore Jack Krug took third in the 1-meter with a score of 283.70, which ranks fifth in school history. He also took fourth in the 3-meter with a 290.30, which ranks eighth. Fellow diver and first-year Bison Connor Thurston also etched his named into the Bucknell record book, scoring 300.55 in the 3-meter to finish second at the meet and fourth all-time for the Bison.
Gehrig, the reigning Patriot League Swimmer of the Week, finished second in the 200 freestyle and third in both the 100 and 500 free. Meanwhile, Chris Kopac picked up a pair of runner-up finishes in the 400 IM and 50 freestyle. Another standout was sophomore Matt Raudabaugh, who placed second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 breaststroke.
Russell, along with his relay efforts, added a strong early-season 50 freestyle time of 21.14 to place fourth.
Bucknell, which jumped out to a 2-0 start to the season in dual meets last weekend, is back in action in two weeks when it heads to Annapolis, Md. to take on Navy, American and Lafayette in a quad meet on Saturday, Nov. 4.
