Men’s Tennis Drops 6-1 Verdict to Delaware

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman Amar Tahirovic was a straight-sets winner at No. 2 singles, but Delaware won three three-setters on the way to a 6-1 victory over the Bison on Saturday afternoon at the Central PA Tennis Center.
Harrison Gold and Brendan McDonald posted a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, but Delaware captured the other two, including a 7-5 win on Court 2, to take the doubles point.
Tahirovic was a 7-5, 6-3 winner over Luis Molina, avenging a three-set loss to Molina at the River City Open back in October.
In a battle of all-conference players at No. 1 singles, Delaware's James Wilkinson held off Gold 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. At fifth and sixth singles, Bison freshmen Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega and Brendan McDonald both won their opening sets, but Delaware's William Wibmer and Bernardo Teixeira came back to take the points.
The Bison fell to 0-3 in a difficult early season stretch of dual matches. Delaware, which is coming off a 15-9 season and a best-ever third-place finish in the CAA, was victorious in its 2023 debut.
Bucknell will be back in action on Feb. 4 against Villanova in Hershey, Pa.
