Gold, Zelikovsky Win as Bison Drop 5-2 Decision to Southern Miss

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Harrison Gold was victorious in both singles and doubles, and Tim Zelikovsky also won in singles but the Bucknell men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Southern Mississippi on Sunday afternoon at Florida Gulf Coast.
Bucknell fell to 0-2 on the young spring campaign after falling 6-1 to FGCU a day earlier. Southern Miss also lost to the Eagles this weekend and is now 1-1 on the season.
Gold teamed with Nick Mueller for a 6-3 win over Dakotah Bobo and Alexander Gima at No. 1 doubles. The Golden Eagles were victorious in the other two doubles matches and jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match.
Gold improved to 2-0 on the season at No. 1 singles with a 7-6, 6-1 victory over Shamirul Shahril. Zelikovsky defeated Taras Ignatiuk 6-4, 6-7, 10-6 at No. 5.
Southern Miss picked up the other four singles victories. Bison freshmen Amar Tahirovic at No. 2 and Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega at No. 6 both won their second sets before falling 6-2 in the third and deciding frame.
Bucknell has a busy spring ahead and will play at home for the first time next weekend. The Bison host Delaware on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Central PA Tennis Center in South Williamsport.
