Women’s Soccer Falls to Princeton, 2-0

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Visiting Princeton scored early and late to take a 2-0 decision from Bucknell in non-league women's soccer action on Tuesday night at Emmitt Field. The Bison saw their two-game winning streak come to an end and will now have all Patriot League matches the rest of the way.
Kate Toomey and Pietra Tordin scored for the Tigers, who won a battle of 2021 NCAA Tournament teams. Princeton, which lost in overtime to eighth-ranked TCU in the second round of last year's national tournament, improved to 6-4 on the season, while the defending Patriot League champs fell to 5-5-1.
Princeton opened the scoring on a corner kick just over 10 minutes into the match. Caroline Kane on the back post was able to nudge the ball across the 6-yard box to Toomey, who touched it in for her first goal of the season.
Bucknell's best chance in the first half came when Abby Gearhart intercepted a pass and bent a shot that just missed the top right corner.
Down just a goal in the second half, the Bison had a couple of set pieces from dangerous areas, and Kenar Gelman and Rylee Donaldson teamed up to get a promising cross in, but Princeton was able to deal with the pressure.
Tordin's fifth goal of the year gave Princeton some breathing room in the 83rd minute. She finished on a clean breakaway after a Bucknell turnover in the back.
The Tigers finished with a 16-4 shot advantage and ended Bucknell's nine-game home unbeaten streak. The Bison's last loss at Emmitt Field came at the hands of 12th-ranked West Virginia on Aug. 27, 2021.
Bucknell's final six regular-season matches will all be in conference, starting with Holy Cross at home on Saturday at noon.
