Huge Second-Half Flurry Lifts Women’s Soccer to 5-1 Win over Holy Cross

Gearhart added an assist to go along with the two goals, and freshman Henna Andican was also involved in three goals, scoring once and assisting on two others. Teresa Deda and Hanna Stuck tacked on goals in that second-half flurry as Bucknell defeated Holy Cross for the eighth straight time at Emmitt Field.
Holy Cross (0-8-4, 0-3-1 PL) defended well throughout the first half as Bucknell had most of the possession. The Bison finally made their breakthrough with just 18 seconds left in the half. Meghan White put a shot off the crossbar, and Andican was right there to punch in the rebound for a 1-0 lead. It was Andican's second goal of the season, and her second in as many Patriot League games.

The Crusaders tied it on a counter-attack just before the hour mark. Ellie Zern carried the ball through the midfield and passed out wide to Ashley Blaka, who fired a high shot that struck the left post, caromed off the back of the leaping goalkeeper Jenna Hall, hit the post again, and spun inches over the line.
Bucknell needed only 14 minutes to get the lead back. Off a throw-in, Andican passed to Petie Nassetta, who found Gearhart with space to shoot about 25 yards from goal. Gearhart placed the shot perfectly into the top left corner past the diving goalkeeper Izzy Castagnetti.

The Bison found an insurance goal less than two minutes later on a counter of their own. Deda dribbled at the back line and fired from just outside the box for her first goal of the season. Deda then recorded her league-leading sixth assist of the season less than two minutes after that. She sent a pass out wide to Andican, whose low cross was turned in by Gearhart, who moved into a tie for the league lead with her fifth goal of the season.
Stuck finished the scoring in the 70th minute, making it four goals in 10:05, when she headed home a corner kick from Reese Evans.
"I was very pleased with how we responded to the tying goal," said head coach Kelly Cook. "They could have taken the momentum back there, but we regrouped and scored four really good goals."
Bucknell finished with an 18-7 shot advantage and led 6-3 in corner kicks.
The Bison are now off until next Friday when they visit Lafayette for a 7 p.m. game.
