BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Bucknell men's track & field team competed at the Lehigh Invitational on Saturday and saw several athletes finish top five at the meet. Notable among the group was Robert Feeney, who took second in the hammer throw and landed on Bucknell's all-time top 10 list in the event.
Feeney posted a mark of 184-1, which ranks eighth in school history. It was a personal best for the sophomore and was the second-best distance by a Bison since 2013. Joining Feeney among the top five finishers in the hammer throw on Saturday was John Calisi, who took fifth with a 172-1.
Bucknell also excelled in the triple jump on Saturday, as Chris Sims finished second with a 42-11.75, and Ian Lawrence wasn't far behind with a 42-9.5 to place third.
Rounding out the second-place finishers was Grayson Crockett, who ran a 9:53.29 in the steeplechase, and he was followed by teammate and third-place finisher Quinn McCutcheon (9:53.71) in the event.
The Bison earned third place in both the 4x400 and the high jump. Grant Ellis, who won the unseeded high jump at William & Mary last weekend, cleared 6-3.25 on Saturday, while the 4x400 team (Owen Chase, Bobby Lynam, Brendan O'Toole, Matt Cervon) ran a 3:29.12 in the relay.
Also placing top five was Colby Belczyk in the 1500 (5th, 4:07.11), Brandon Foust in the 200 (5th, 22.85), Trevor Drescher in the javelin (4th, 175-5), and Matt Federovich in the long jump (4th, 21-3.25).
Up next, Bucknell hosts the annual Bison Outdoor Classic. Events begin on Thursday, April 14 and run through Saturday, April 16. The Friday and Saturday portions of the meet will be broadcast on FloTrack.
Coach Donner's Take
"This was one of those meets where we had a lot of different missions depending on the individual. We rested quite a few people, and we had others doing their secondary events rather than their primary events to get a good training effect. Most of our field event athletes obviously competed in their primary events, but we did rest a few. Overall, it was a very solid day, we accomplished many of our goals, and we had many athletes gain some nice experience. We did have some bus issues that caused some unwanted stress, and some of our athletes had to miss their events, which was better than nothing. The main goal is to set us up for the Bison Outdoor Classic and the Bucknell Team Challenge the next two weeks. Traditionally, about 70 percent of seed marks for Patriot Leagues have come from those two home meets, and we expect that to happen this year as well."
