About the Bison
• The Bucknell men's track & field team is hosting the annual Bison Outdoor Classic at Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium this week. It's the first of two outdoor meets the Bison are hosting this spring. Bucknell has not held the Outdoor Classic since 2019. Friday and Saturday's portions of the meet will be broadcast on FloTrack.
• Bucknell competed at the Lehigh Invitational last weekend and saw several strong performances, despite resting many of its athletes. Perhaps most notable from the Lehigh meet was Robert Feeney, who once against moved up Bucknell's all-time top 10 list in the hammer throw. Feeney took second at the meet and now ranks eighth in school history with a 184-1 mark. He also entered the top 10 for weight throw during the indoor season. Feeney was an honorable mention for Patriot League Men's Field Athlete of the Week last Tuesday.
• The Bison also excelled in triple jump last weekend, as Chris Sims took second (42-11.75) and Ian Lawrence placed third (42-9.5). Sims set a new personal-best mark (20-1.75) in the long jump on Saturday as well.
• Also placing high at Lehigh were rookies Grayson Crockett (2nd, 9:53.29) and Quinn McCutcheon (3rd, 9:53.71) in the steeplechase.
• Grant Ellis took third in the high jump last weekend after winning the unseeded section of the event at the Colonial Relays two weeks ago with a personal-best 6-7.5. Bucknell's 4x400 team took third at Lehigh as well.
• Bucknell was solid as a team overall at the Colonial Relays at William & Mary two weeks ago, cplacing 16th out of 40 teams. Entering Bucknell's all-time top 10 in the 400 at William & Mary was Ethan Wolford-Tuffy. His 48.32 places him ninth in program history.
• Wolford-Tuffy has also been part of several strong 4x400 teams this year, while the 4x200 and 4x1500 squads each scored points at the Colonial Relays.
• At the last Bison Outdoor Classic in 2019, Bucknell picked up wins in the 400 and pole vault while grabbing second-place finishes in the 4x100, 400 hurdles, and the decathlon.
Coach Donner's Take
"We are very proud and excited to be hosting the Bison Outdoor Classic once again after a two-year break due to the pandemic. The meet is as big as it has ever been, and the quality of competition is top notch in all events. It ranks as one of the premier meets in the country for this particular weekend. All the events are stacked with NCAA qualifiers for all three divisions. I believe Friday night might just be the largest distance carnival in the country with approximately 1,000 runners competing in the 1500 meter, 3000 meter steeplechase, 5000 meter and 10000 meter. The warm temperatures in the day will be great for the sprinters, jumpers and throwers, and the cooler temperatures in the evening should be perfect for the distance runners. Teams from all over the country will congregate in Lewisburg looking for quality competition and they will get it right here."
