The jumps crew obtained two wins with stars Jeffrey Cianfrocca and CJ Simbiri supplying the first place finishes.
I am proud of the way they competed, said jumps coach Kaitlin Salisbury. We've been trying new things with both approaches that I think are starting to click for them. Coach Sharp and I are thrilled with their progress, and it is only going to get better.
Cianfrocca continued his mastery of the high jump, clearing 6-5.50 in the event. The senior won silver at the Patriot League Indoor Championships and plans for more at the Outdoor Championships.
Today I just tried to implement some of the tweaks we made in practice and also make sure that everything else stayed sharp, said Cianfrocca. I'm happy I was able to put it together and come out with the win today.
Simbiri was the model of consistency in the triple jump. The sophomore stud posted marks in all six results and passed 47 feet in four of the results. His best mark of 47-7.25 arrived in his third attempt.
This week, I have been hammering out the issues in my run-through, said Simbiri. That correction is fixing all the problem I have later in my jumps. So my practices this week were key and just being relaxed and knowing that I would jump whatever God had for me to jump.
Simbiri focused on his execution all week and the practice paid off on Sunday. What worked was just execution, he said. Executing everything I have been practicing and making sure it looked exactly like it did at practice.
The throws added several new top ten marks in program history. Aiden Tacker improved his fifth-best position in school history with a fourth-place winning toss of 60.27m (197-9). The mark arrived in his first attempt. Braiden Pulver finished eighth, tossing 56.85m (186-6). The distance arrived in his final attempt and moved him to ninth all-time.
Julius Catuogno picked up eighth in the men's javelin throw. The freshman threw 55.61m (182-5) in his second chance.
The sprints produced several solid results, headlined by Luke Petryna's time in the 200-meter dash. The sophomore ran 21.39 to finish ninth and move up to sixth at Bucknell.
Preston Lubeski slotted fifth in a deep 400-meter dash. He ran 48.37, nearly equaling his personal record.
Lubeski and Petryna joined forces with Amani Brown and Garrett Backus to make Bison history in the 4x100-meter relay. The quarter placed third, running 41.32, good enough for eighth all-time at Bucknell.
Backus finished tenth in his solo effort in the 100-meter dash. The sprinter raced 10.79.
Luis Colmenares-Bittar slotted 11th in the 400-meter hurdles. The sophomore registered 54.86.
Adam Dicken finished sixth in the mile run, logging 4:22.52.
Aidan Karson leads the decathlon after five events with 3538 points. He finished first in three events: 100-meter dash, high jump, and long jump.
It was a great weekend to be a Bison. The weather cooperated, and we competed very well across the board in all event areas with numerous all-time top ten marks, personal bests, season bests, and even a nation-best mark. Now we have to focus on maintenance and staying healthy. The teams seem to be jelling, and we have some great meets coming up in the next two weeks with the ECAC-IC4As and the Penn Relays.
The Bison Outdoor Classic concludes tomorrow with the multi-events.
