LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's track & field team continued to improve and put together another outstanding performance at home for a second consecutive weekend, finishing first among 10 teams that attended the Bucknell Team Challenge on Saturday with 200.5 points. Saint Francis finished second with 126 points.
The Bison scored in every event, earned seven event victories, and saw eight athletes enter or move up on all-time top 10 performance lists. Bucknell also celebrated Senior Day following the meet, honoring the careers of 18 graduating Bison.
"It was a very good day for the Bison, as we scored in every event and also had a lot of season-best marks. Although we didn't really talk about the team scores, it's always nice to win decisively," said head coach Kevin Donner. "Saint Francis is a very good team and is favored to win the Northeast Conference. The weather was the best we have seen all year, and I believe it helped with numerous all-time top 10 marks. We seem to be gelling as a team, and overall it was a very fun day. Honoring a great group of seniors in their last home meet was very special."
Senior Michaela Bracken earned two all-time top 10 finishes on the day, as the senior won the 400 hurdles with a 1:00.98 and placed second in the high jump with a 5-7. Her hurdles time moved her from fifth to third in the school record book, and her high jump mark is tied for second. Karen Hull also cleared 5-7 at the meet. The pair were just a quarter of an inch shy of the school record.
Ella Derstine (4th, 1:04.77) and Mikayla Horvath (5th, 1:05.15) also scored in the 400 hurdles, and Abby Kates scored in the high jump as well with a 5-5.
Hull picked up points with a win in the 100 hurdles as well, running a 14.80 to score 10 points for the Bison. Emily Grubb (4th, 15.25) and Abby Eisold (6th, 15.46) weren't far behind.
Junior Jessie Castellano earned a win and a spot on Bucknell's all-time top 10 list with a 56.45 in the 400. She now ranks seventh in school history and is the second junior to enter the list in two weeks.
Bucknell had three of the top four finishers in the 800, led by Karly Forker's 2:10.34. Her time earned her a win at the meet and was the sixth-fastest time in program history. It was her second time entering an all-time top 10 list in as many weeks. She was followed by teammate Mackenzie Turner, whose 2:12.34 was good enough for second and is tied for 10th all-time, and Anna Posh (4th, 2:14.84).
Mia Bellucci won the 3000 with a 9:59.01, which places her ninth on the all-time top 10 list. Emily Deschler (4th, 10:29.68) and Laura Sakol (6th, 10:31.94) both scored as well.
Siobhan O'Sullivan's first-place finish came in the shot put with a 45-8 to move up from eighth to sixth on the all-time list.
Bucknell's 4x100 team (Bridget Lalonde, Meghan Quinn, Gianna Macones, Karen Hull) broke 47 seconds for a second straight weekend, winning the event with a 46.94. The same group ran the second-fasted time in program history last weekend at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
Meghan Quinn continued to shine in the 100, placing third with a 12.14. Quinn (24.95) and Lalonde (25.21) both scored in the 200 as well with fourth- and fifth-place finishes, respectively.
Madison Libby (17-6.25) and Gianna Macones (17-5.5) finished second and third, respectively, in the long jump, and elsewhere in the field Abby Whitaker was second in the discus with a 143-5.
Others placing top three at the meet included Riley Beebe in the javelin (3rd, 124-10), Lexi Gray in triple jump (3rd, 37-7.25), Annie Glenning in the hammer throw (3rd, 155-2), and Ally Clarke in the 3000 (3rd, 11:10.10). Additionally, pole vaulters Karly Renn and Jennifer Scott tied for third with an 11-1.75.
Up next, Bucknell sees its final week of competition before the Patriot League outdoor championships. Select Bison will make the trip to the Penn Relays on Thursday, April 28 and Friday, April 29. Others will attend the single-day Maroon & Gold Invite at Bloomsburg on Friday.
