RESULTS
VILLANOVA, Pa. – Five of the six Bucknell players in action shot 74 or better in difficult scoring conditions, and the Bison men's golf team sits in a three-way tie for fourth place at the halfway point of Villanova's Wildcat Invitational at Radnor Valley Country Club.
Jackson Bussell paced Bucknell with a 2-over-par 72, Blake Wisdom and Jason Lohwater followed with 73s, and Jack Gardner was the fourth counter with a 74, giving the Bison a 292 team total. Michael Rudnick, playing as an individual, also shot a 74 on Monday.
Bussell put three birdies on his card and is tied for 15th individually. Wisdom made a team-high four birdies and dropped strokes on only four holes, but three of them were double-bogeys. Lohwater and Gardner fashioned two birdies apiece, as the Bison joined Big East foes Marquette and St. John's as the only teams in the 14-team field with all four counters at 74 or better. Both of Gardner's birdies came on par-3 holes.
Marquette took the 18-hole lead with a 281 team composite, while St. John's is second at 285 followed by Long Island at 291. Bucknell, Delaware, and William & Mary are all deadlocked in fourth at 292. The Bison were the best of the four Patriot League schools in the field, as Lafayette is in seventh place (294), Lehigh is tied for eighth (295), and Colgate is tied for 12th (298).
David Hurly of Lehigh carded a 3-under 67 to grab the individual lead. Marquette's Hunter Eichhorn and Delaware's Sahasawat Ariyachatvakin are one shot back, and Binghamton's Justin Lane and Marquette's Tyler Leach also broke par with 1-under 69s.
Bucknell will be in the last foursome with Marquette, St. John's, and Long Island in Tuesday's second and final round. Play gets started at 8 a.m., but Bucknell's tee times begin at 10:30 a.m.
