LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's track & field team completed the final day of the 2022 Bison Outdoor Classic at a rain-soaked Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium on Saturday and saw several outstanding performances, including a win in the 4x400, a pair of school top 10 efforts and a number of other athletes place fifth or higher at the meet.
"It was a great weekend of track & field. Our athletes performed very well, and we had numerous personal bests or season-best marks," said head coach Kevin Donner. "We had a number of people make our all-time top 10 list. Today we had periodic showers, but our athletes performed admirably, and we are now a better team because of this weekend. Over 100 schools were represented this weekend, and the competition was outstanding. We are three weeks out from Patriot Leagues, and we are starting to put some things together."
Bucknell's 4x400 team (Michaela Bracken, Jessie Castellano, Meghan Quinn, Bridget Lalonde) took first with a 3:48.57, beating out nine other schools for the victory. All four members of the squad also posted outstanding finishes in other events.
While placing second out of 22, the 4x100 team (Lalonde, Quinn, Gianna Macones, Karen Hull) was possibly Bucknell's most impressive event of the day. The unit's 46.89 was the second-fasted time in program history behind only the 2013 team that set the record at 46.68. Bucknell was also just .09 seconds behind first-place Buffalo.
Lalonde also entered Bucknell's top 10 performance list in the 400, running a 56.20 to take third out of 90 runners and land fifth in the school record books. She was followed closely by Castellano, who placed eighth with a 57.36.
Along with her efforts in the relays, Quinn impressed in the 100 and the 200. The sophomore finished fourth in the 100 out of 81 sprinters with a 12.18. She also finished seventh in the 200 with a 24.76, falling just shy of her personal-best 24.70 that ranks fourth all-time in the program. Macones placed seventh in the 100 with a personal-best 12.27.
Senior Michaela Bracken earned a third-place finish in the 400 hurdles, running a 1:03.12.
Karly Renn put up a strong performance in the pole vault for a second week in a row, taking sixth and tying her personal best of 12-1.5 that ranks fifth in program history.
Adding to the list of top five finishers on Saturday was Abby Kates in the high jump (3rd, 5-3.25) and Hollie Walters in the mile (5:17.09). Walters was followed by teammates Mari Engleby (6th, 5:25.76) and Margaret McLoughlin (10th, 5:28.19).
Karly Forker, who entered Bucknell's all-time top 10 list in the 10k on Friday, ran a 2:14.00 in the 800 on Saturday to place 11th in a massive field of 133 runners.
Other notable performances included Karen Hull in the 100 hurdles (8th, 14.64), Kate Amaddio in the 3000 (9th, 10:56.77), Samantha Lopes in the triple jump (9th, 37-5), and Siobhan O'Sullivan in the shot put (9th, 44-6.75).
Bucknell is back at Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium again next weekend to host the Bucknell Team Challenge. It's a single-day meet taking place on Saturday, April 23.
