SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Harrison Gold came from a set down to win the match-clincher at No. 1 singles, sending the Bucknell men's tennis team to a 5-2 victory over Colgate on Friday evening at the Central PA Tennis Center. The Bison leveled their Patriot League record at 1-1 and started a two-match weekend on a high note. Colgate claimed the doubles point to take the early lead, but Bucknell stormed back to win five of the six singles tilts.
Gold was a double-winner on Friday, as he teamed with Nick Mueller for a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. He then dropped the first set 6-3 to Jack Selati at first singles but won the next two 6-3, 6-3. That gave Bucknell the decisive fourth point, as Nicolas Grunig (6), Michael Owen (3), and Tim Zelikovsky (4) had already won in straight sets.
It was the ninth win in a row for Zelikovsky, who improved to 10-4 in dual matches this spring. Ink Chen was also a singles winner for the Bison, as he defeated Nate Romig 10-5 in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 5.
Bucknell avenged a 4-3 loss to Colgate in last year's Patriot League Tournament. The Raiders fell to 7-7 overall and 1-2 in the Patriot League this season.
The Bison will be back on the indoor courts in South Williamsport on Sunday, taking on Boston University at 10 a.m. The Bucknell women's team will be battling Colgate at the same time.
