Bucknell at a Glance
- After splitting two matches last weekend, the Bison men's tennis squad heads back on the road for a Saturday-morning dual at Dartmouth, a strong program out of the Ivy League.
- Last week the Bison cruised to a 6-1 home victory over Saint Francis before dropping a tight 4-3 decision at Delaware. Bucknell has won three of its last five dual matches, with both losses coming by 4-3 counts to Saint Joseph's and Delaware.
- Bucknell has won the doubles point in three of its last four matches, including both last weekend. The No. 1 doubles team of Harrison Gold and Tim Zelikovsky is red-hot, having won five matches in a row.
- Zelikovsky has been just as strong in singles, where he has also won five in a row, dropping only one set in that span in the No. 4 spot in the lineup. Zelikovsky and Nick Mueller are tied for the team lead with 12 singles wins, including fall tournament play.
- Michael Owen has won four in a row at No. 3 singles, including a come-from-behind three-setter against Delaware last Sunday.
- Newcomer Charlie Nordahl picked up his first Bison victory when he teamed with Nicolas Grunig for a win at No. 3 doubles against the Blue Hens.
- The Big Green are off to a 5-3 start in 2022. Their wins are against Binghamton, Bryant, Cleveland State, Brown, and St. John's, while the losses are all to strong opponents in Penn State, Columbia, and Yale.
- Dartmouth's most recent match was a 4-2 home victory over a St. John's team that came in with a 7-1 record. The Big Green won all three of their singles matches in three sets, with Andy Ilie clinching the win at No. 6 singles.
- Junior Anders Gibbons is Dartmouth's No. 1 player.
- Dartmouth is back in action this year after its 2020-21 season was wiped out due to COVID-19. The previous season, the Big Green finished 9-3 with the only three losses coming to top-40 teams Cornell, Princeton, and Indiana.
- Following the Dartmouth match, Bucknell heads to Florida for four contests during Spring Break week.
- Bucknell opens Patriot League play at home against Army on March 19.
