ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bucknell women's track & field team put together a dominant performance at the Navy Spring Invite on Saturday, opening the outdoor schedule with victories in nine different events. The Bison also saw several athletes move up in the record books with historic performances this weekend.
Continuing her run of first-place finishes with two more on Saturday was sophomore Meghan Quinn, who won both the 100 and the 200. Quinn moved into fourth all-time in the 100 with a 12.06, improving on her previous fourth-ranked spot. Her 200 victory came with a 25.30 time.
Coming in close behind Quinn in the 200 was Bridget Lalonde (3rd, 26.04), who was also part of Bucknell's 1-2 finish in the 400. Lalonde won the 400 with a 57.35, while classmate Jessie Castellano came in second with a 57.90. Mackenzie Turner, another member of Bucknell's junior class, grabbed fourth with a 59.52.
Also earning a victory on Saturday was Emily Deschler in the 5000. Deschler ran an 18:07.28 and was followed in second place by teammate Abby Paczewski (18:11.31).
Joining Quinn and Lalonde with a pair impressive event finishes on Saturday was Karen Hull, who claimed a win in the high jump (5-3) and took second in the 100 hurdles (14.57). The Bison also shined in the 400 hurdles, as Mikayla Horvath finished first (1:04.82) and Ella Derstine grabbed second (1:06.62).
Bucknell won three other field events, including Jennifer Scott in pole vault (11-8.5), Gianna Macones in long jump (18-7.25) and Siobhan O'Sullivan in shot put (44-10.75). O'Sullivan's mark was good enough for eighth in the record books.
Also earning a spot on Bucknell's top 10 list and putting up one of the most impressive showings of the day was the Bison's 4x100 team. The group (Lalonde, Quinn, Macones, Hull) ran the fifth-fastest time in school history with a 47.15 to take second at the meet. Bucknell's other relay, the 4x400, placed second as well with a 4:03.04.
In addition to its appearance at the Navy meet, Bucknell also sent athletes to the Jim Taylor Invitational at Susquehanna. Finishing fifth in the 400 at the local meet was Colleen Linko (1:01.00), and Abigail Dunne took third in the 400m hurdles with a 1:08.31.
